From the Director’s Desk………

It is with great pleasure that we all celebrate the accomplishment of a long-cherished dream!! The Ministry of Education, New Delhi, India on the advice of the UGC, has declared Madhav Institute of Technology and Science, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh as an Institution Deemed to be University under distinct category. It is the culmination of efforts, hard work, dedication and aspirations of various stakeholders during the 67-year-old remarkable and glorious journey of the Institute. Many hurdles were crossed and finally, the indomitable spirit of MITSIANS has succeeded.

I congratulate all my dear students, alumni, staff, faculty, management and all other stakeholders whose joint efforts in improving the perception of the institute by many folds through their support to the institute in all the novel initiatives taken during the last seven years, contributed in achieving the A++ grade from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in August 2023. Once that milestone was achieved, the dream to become Deemed to be University seemed closer. With focused attempts, hard work and passion of the team MITS, within nine months the institute realized this target.

The implementation of a flexible curriculum and the New Education Policy (NEP-2020) in letter and spirit made us a ‘Distinct Institute’ and led our path towards the Deemed to be University status.

The attributes which set MITS apart from other institutions in the region are: the culture of self-learning, performance of the students in NPTEL courses, MITS-MOODLE, the continuous evaluation model, credit transfer from MOOCs, the departmental & open electives, mandatory courses on Python, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, the provision of in-house and full semester internships, project based learning, novel courses for holistic development, provision for getting major/honours degree, research internship, multiple mode teaching and evaluation, audit courses, the large number of diverse student clubs, credits for extra &co-curricular activities,  etc.; last but not the least, the excellent infrastructure and green, vibrant campus.

This status will immensely help in taking the quality initiatives to the next level and in fulfilling the government mandate of providing a holistic system of technical education that can prepare well rounded individuals for serving the future global needs and for strengthening the nation in becoming the Vishva Guru.

Having said that, let me make it very clear that this status brings with it increased responsibility; on the students, faculty and all the stakeholders. Any kind of complacency cannot be permitted to enter the system. To fulfil this mandate lots of sincere efforts will be required to establish a new brand MITS, building on the existing name and history of the institute. To reap all the benefits of this newly acquired elite status in the state, all the distinct practices established and internalized by the institute would need to continuously evolve and improve with an active participation of all stakeholders.

The culture of meritocracy, transparency, flexibility and academic reforms need to be taken to the next level now. There is also a need to analyse the weaknesses and address them aggressively, in a targeted manner.

The onus of learning, now more than ever, is on the learner in this student centric teaching-learning environment which permits “Anytime, Anywhere” learning. The students can learn ‘at their own time, in their own place, at their own pace’. Never before were the students as empowered as they are today, in this digital age. So dear students, please make full use of the academic ambience and be the owner of your future. In the end, only your skills will make you a ‘job ready professional’. So, you must focus on developing all kinds of skills; professional, technical, managerial, communication, leadership, problem-solving skills and life-skills. Devote more time on campus, learn, innovate, experiment, execute and enjoy!!

The stage is now set for you all to take off!! All that is needed is to have a clear focus and a set of specific goals in your life. The institute has your back, always. Remember, it is never too late. The time is right for you to start drawing the roadmap of your life and career.  

 “You can’t go back and change the beginning but you can start where you are and change the ending”.   

My dear students, no matter what you do, where you go from here, you will always represent this great old Institution and you must do all in your power to earn goodwill and good name for your alma mater and must always try to live up to its 67-year-old grand legacy.
