Dr. Rajindra Kumar Pandit
From the Vice Chancellor’s Desk………
Recently, in March 2024 the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, New Delhi, on the advice of the UGC, declared Madhav Institute of Technology and Science, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh as an Institution Deemed to be University under distinct category. The institute established in 1957 has successfully served the nation since then and boasts of competent, successful, highly placed alumni in different places; ranging from corporates to public sectors, railways, the armed forces, administrative services, entrepreneurs, academicians and many such occupations all over the globe.
The institute is among the few in the country which offers engineering degree in core as well as a large number of emerging branches of engineering. From this year two new programmes, on ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘Computer Science and Business Systems’ would be added to the already existing list of B.Tech programmes in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics and Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
The implementation of flexible curriculum and the New Education Policy (NEP-2020) in letter and spirit made us a ‘Distinct Institute’ and led our path towards the Deemed to be University status. The attributes which set MITS apart from other institutions in the region are the culture of self-learning, performance of the students in NPTEL courses, MITS-MOODLE, the continuous evaluation model, credit transfer from MOOCs, the departmental & open electives, mandatory courses on Python, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, mandatory audit courses, the provision of in-house and full last semester internships, project based learning, novel courses for holistic development, provision for getting major/honours degree, research internship, multiple mode teaching and evaluation, credits for extra co-curricular activities, etc…. last but not the least, well established labs, excellent infrastructure and green, vibrant campus.
Once a student is admitted in MITS, the myriad provisions embedded in the curriculum help to mould his/her career through a flexible holistic learning, personal growth and preparedness for the market/job. The roadmap for the student is prepared very carefully, allowing the individuality to flourish through a large number of domain specific as well as holistic elective courses. There are more than 60 active student clubs which cater to the all-round personality development, leadership skills, communication and other technical skills which result in finally producing a well-rounded engineer ready to handle all kinds of real-world challenges.
The Deemed University status will immensely help further in taking the quality initiatives to the next level and in fulfilling the government mandate of providing a holistic system of technical education that can prepare well rounded individuals for serving the future global needs and strengthen the nation in becoming the Vishwa Guru.
On behalf of the management, faculty, alumni and staff, I wish all my students all the best for all their present and future endeavours.
